The Credit Suisse Story

Credit Suisse was founded by Alfred Escher in 1856 as Schweizerische Kreditanstalt (SKA), which became Schweizerische Bankgesellschaft (SBG) in 1873 and finally Credit Suisse in 1966. In 1858, Credit Suisse opened its first branch office in Zurich. However, it was not until 1912 that it became a limited company under the name "Credit Suisse". During World War II, Credit Suisse expanded its business significantly and played a major role in helping Swiss companies maintain their operations during this challenging period.

In 1990, Credit Suisse acquired SBC Warburg Dillon Read for $10 billion to expand its presence in London.
