Rahul Jaideoka

As a piece of advice, I would just like to mention that the students should study hard and be determined to avail an internship of their own choice. Their primary focus during the internship should be on the experience they are about to gain and not on the stipend that they will be receiving.

Rahul Jaideoka passed his intermediate examinations from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Bokaro. He took PCM with English and Computer Science as his primary subjects. Due to his love for Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Computer Science he took JEE Advanced examinations. After clearing this examination, he got admitted into the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) having Electronics as his stream for graduation. Due to his immense love for Computer Science since his school days, he started coding in college. In his third year of college, he interned as a Research and Development Associate at Samsung Research and Development Institute, Bangalore. During the Campus Selection process of his college, he received job offers from Samsung, SAP Labs, and Amazon. Presently, he is working as a Developer Associate in Innovation Engineering of CIM (Customer Innovation and Maintenance) at SAP Labs, Pune.

How did you get the internship? Can you tell me about the selection process?

I got the internship through the Campus Training and Placement Cell. During this process, I was first required to fill my willingness for particular companies that I wished to intern. After that, I submitted my resume based on which the companies were to shortlist me. After being shortlisted, I was to appear for an online coding test organized by the company. After passing the same,  I was required to appear for an interview round which consisted of multiple rounds, mainly, three technical rounds followed by an HR round. After clearing the interview round, I was hired to intern at the company.

What was your title and responsibility in that internship?

During the internship at Samsung Banglore, my job title was that of a Student Trainee in the R&D Institute. I was a Research Intern. My work there was mainly focused on Reinforcement Learning where I was required to develop algorithms to maximize the Throughput Fairness Index in network resource allocation for LTE downlinks.

Did you face any challenges in getting the internship?

Since I got the internship through the Campus Training and Placement Cell, the entire event was in a pretty much-organized manner. Getting an internship through this process was very easy for students who were ready to put in 100% effort.

What kind of skills/characteristics are needed for being hired for this role?

The skills required to get this internship are as follows:-

  • One has to be well versed in coding.
  • One has to be pretty confident while answering the questions.
  • One needs to have good experience in machine-learning projects and software development projects.
  • One needs to have good knowledge of Operating Systems, DBMS, and Computer Networks.

What is your overall experience during the internship?

My overall experience during this internship was quite enriching. The mentor allocated to me for my project was pretty much friendly which helped me gain an even better experience. I learned a lot of new things during this internship.

What was your stipend/ salary range during an internship? What kind of benefits do you get?

My stipend during this internship was confidential. However, it was a pretty decent amount for the position I was interning for. Apart from this, I also received an internship experience letter after the completion of the internship term. Along with the same, I also got a Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) from the company during the time of placements.

How did the internship help you in getting your job? Your current title and company name?

The internship helped me a lot in the process of me getting my current job. During the interview, I was able to speak about my internship project which somewhat seemed to impress the interviewee. Presently, I am working as a Developer Associate in SAP Labs, Pune.

Do you think an internship is important for students? Why?

Internships are very important for students to get an idea of how the corporate world operates. It helps them gain the required experience which will help them in availing their future job. Since one also gets to meet a varied range of people who have experience in different fields, it helps students enrich their skill-set. It helps them get practical experience, thereby making them well built for the upcoming challenges. Finally, getting a decent stipend during the internship enriches their will to work and thereby keeps them motivated throughout.

What suggestions can you give to students who want to apply for internships?

As a piece of advice, I would just like to mention that the students should study hard and be determined to avail an internship of their own choice. They should also apply to as many companies as possible as it increases their scope for selection. Their primary focus during the internship should be on the experience they are about to gain and not on the stipend that they will be receiving.
