Overview

Fund of Friends is India’s first pre-seed, angel syndicate being run by the investors themselves, with a vision to democratize angel investments in India. This Venture Capital fund comprises a community of Indian investors around the globe and is focused on helping (primarily) tech startups grow into scaled, global businesses. Armed with our capital and deep global operational experience, we are actively helping create the next generation of business leaders.

We are structuring this fund into an angel syndicate with an aim to become the biggest pre-seed Angel VC in India. We are recruiting an intern who will be at the forefront of this opportunity to devise the growth trajectory of this fund and contribute directly to India’s growing start-up ecosystem. He/ She will be an invaluable asset to both the fund & our portfolio companies and will be responsible for helping source and evaluate new investment opportunities by leveraging deep analytics combined with market context to unlock new insights. They will also be partnering with the C-level team of our portfolio companies on operational topics to help them scale and navigate global growth.

Responsibilities

Fund

  • Conduct market scans to identify key trends & develop investment theses
  • Devise a strategy to source new pre-seed ideation or proof-of-concept startups and network to scale
  • Assist with evaluating new investment opportunities, conduct due diligence, data analyses, and help sponsor prepare for Investment Committee review meetings
  • Assist with pulling together portfolio performance reports & investor review decks
  • Track & monitor ongoing performance of portfolio MIS to proactively identify problem areas and growth acceleration opportunities
  • Be a thought partner to the FoF leadership team help shape the strategy of our fund
  • Eventually, help set up the fund as a registered entity in India from 0 to 1

Portfolio

  • Partner with portfolio leadership to drive analysis of strategic opportunities (e.g., business-line growth strategy, new market / geo-expansion strategy, inorganic growth)
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of GTM operations and metrics to develop a deeper understanding of key growth drivers
  • Identify areas for operational improvements (e.g., coverage model optimization, churn management, marketing funnel optimization)
  • Drive cross-functional projects that involve working closely on non-GTM elements like Finance, Product, or  Delivery (e.g., P&L or burn analyses, product usage & pricing, team effectiveness)
  • Help create & standardize operational CRM/ dashboard for business leaders and angels

Requirements

  • Strong Analytical Skills: Data-driven thinker with a good understanding of company P&Ls that enable him/her to perform quick analysis to identify insights. Advanced Excel & financial modeling skills are required, and good knowledge of SaaS metrics is a big plus.
  • Effective Storyteller: Ability to identify and convey insights through compelling presentations using PowerPoint is very important.
  • Structured Thinker: Develop and leverage frameworks to help structure the team’s thinking, facilitate alignment on key strategic decisions among various stakeholders, and identify the most impactful opportunities to reach insightful, actionable answers without boiling the ocean with analyses overload
  • High-Energy, Team-First, Positive Attitude: We operate in an entrepreneurial environment with a strong sense of ownership of our responsibilities. This requires natural motivation to work hard (and play hard!) in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with the team to produce the desired outcome.
  • Multi-Tasking Prioritization Expertise: Experience (and preferably an enjoyment of) balancing numerous different priorities and demands.
  • Self-Starter & Highly Productive: We’re looking for folks who can be highly productive with limited oversight on a day-to-day direction. Candidates who enjoy variety don’t mind rolling up their sleeves to do whatever it takes will thrive.

Experience

  • 0-1 year of top-tier strategy consulting or banking or operational experience.
  • Final year students can also apply.
  • Experience in go-to-market, prior investment/ due diligence, and/ or tech industry is a plus.
  • This internship can ultimately convert to a full-time role as well.
