The Zeta Story

The company was founded in April 2015 by Bhavin Turakhia[4] and Ramki Gaddipati. Its initial offerings were digitized enterprise solutions for employee tax benefits, automated cafeterias, employee gifting, and digital payments. In 2016, Bhavin Turakhia invested around $19 million into Zeta.

Initially, Zeta payments were only supported by the MasterCard network but later the company also tied up with the National Payments Corporation of India's RuPay.In June 2017, the company invested 5-10 crore to buy a minority stake in an HR solutions[buzzword] company called ZingHR.

Zeta has partnerships with IDFC Bank, Sodexo, Excelity Global, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and RBL Bank. Zeta launched the first employee benefits survey in India along with Nielsen Holdings in April 2018. It also bought a minority stake in PeopleStrong in January 2018. In 2019, Zeta received an investment from Sodexo BRS at a valuation of $300 million.

In 2020, Zeta launched its technology platform-as-a-service in The Philippines and Vietnam with Sodexo being its first client in these countries. In 2021, Zeta secured $250 million in investment from SoftBank Vision Fund 2. This Series C investment values Zeta at $1.45 billion. This is one of the largest single investments in a banking tech startup globally.

At Zeta, we are rethinking payments from core to the edge. The algorithms form factors. The applications to solutions. Led by the vision to make payments invisible and seamless, Zeta has built an Omni Stack for Financial Institutions (FIs) for debit, credit, prepaid, loans, authentication, and Fraud and Risk Management (FRM).

Recruitment process

There are five rounds at Zeta

Round 1 - Phone Interview

The first round was a telephonic interview with a developer, focused on problem-solving, data structures, and algorithms. The interviewer was polite and eager to help, and that made the conversation easier.

Round 2 - Problem-solving and Coding

The first F2F round was again focused on problem-solving and coding.

Round 3 - Programming and tech fundamentals

This round was with a more senior engineer in the team and covered a wide range of topics from java fundamentals, OO and system design principles, REST API design, etc.

Round 4 - System Design

This round was with an Engineering Manager and focused on system design. I was asked to design Youtube - The interviewer kept the question vague enough and I was expected to ask further questions regarding the requirements, scope them and discuss the solution. We discussed the various entities involved (Video, User, Tag, Subscriber, etc), their attributes, and relationships. After this I wasn’t pretty sure which direction to take - I ended up talking about the different datastores(SQL/NoSQL) that can be used used to persist this data, how it can be scaled, etc. To my surprise, the interviewer was not very keen on discussing this and was a bit more interested to see what will be the different modules for this application, what will be their responsibilities/boundaries.

Round 5 - With the CTO

This was the final round and was with the CTO of Zeta.
