Sayani Sarkar

In my opinion, you can never blame companies for paying you very less, entry-level jobs in our country pay less, but I believe if you can have a good CV and you are good at soft and hardcore skills, you can bag good packages as a fresher.

My name is Sayani Sarkar. I am from the small town of Siliguri in West Bengal. A slight introvertish girl, believer of simplicity, yet chirpy with the right company. I have completed my plus 2 from Caesar School and took ‘PCMB’ as my combination of subjects. I went to the Guru Nanak Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (B.Pharm). After my plus 2, I saw a good scope in the field of pharmacy and also due to my interest in the science subjects it offers in the designed curriculum. Apart from my professional life, I have a deep interest in anything that has to do with art and creativity and I also consider it my first love, particularly creative photography.

Tell us about the recruitment process for Wipro?

Since most of the college tier 1 colleges of the pharmacy domain offer campus placement, my college also invited companies for campus placement. The process was very general which included, at first CV filtration, then a personal interview round and thereafter an HR round. The interview round consists of questions from my C.V and also a few questions from my academics. After a week or so I received the offer letter and then onboarding was done at the Kolkata Centre.

Tell us about your role and responsibilities at Wipro as a Drug Safety Associate.

After the training tenure, I started working as a case processor for drugs released in the market. Later, I was promoted to work as a quality reviewer. The main part of my roles and responsibilities revolve around understanding and evaluating the data of various drugs administered and putting them properly in a working IT tool and maintaining the data collection.

How has your overall experience been at Wipro?

The overall experience has been fantastic, we get to learn a lot about our day-to-day operations. As work from home is over, heading to the office every day feels good to me. I really like the positive vibe at my office and the way its infrastructure is designed. It really increases my productivity like good coffee, a good working desk, canteens, colleagues, and many more really makes me visit the office every day with new excitement. So to sum up Wipro has a work culture that matures you into a corporate person.

What are your general views on the importance of internships?

As pharmacy students, we go through a lot of practical sessions in labs and it constitutes a big part of our academic curriculum. Internships are definitely something you can look up to for experience. We are provided industrial visits and also have to do internships as a compulsory part of the curriculum. While I was in college I observed many of my friends did a lot of internships apart from the fields of pharmacy to diversify their profile and that is something every student in college should do.

Kindly provide some suggestions for a fresher candidate looking for a job.

In my opinion, you can never blame companies for paying you very less, entry-level jobs in our country pay less, but I believe if you can have a good CV and you are good at soft and hardcore skills, you can bag good packages as a fresher. So one should not be discussing it but rather be more focused on improving your academics and interest in your field of education.

Your advice to freshers on how to get a good-paying job in companies like Wipro?

If you belong to any field like pharmacy, from the beginning of your college you need to put in your time in academics. Then work on your skills like communication skills, technical skills, advanced excel, research internships etc, so that you can make an impact while sitting in campus placement or when you apply for a fresher level job through platforms like ‘Prosple’. Also, participation in cultural or college event management gives you an extra edge over others in CV filtration as companies like Wipro look at your overall profile inclusive of your leadership and interpersonal skills.
