The P&G Story

In the year 1886, after a disastrous fire at the first plant, Ivorydale was purpose-built as a modern manufacturing facility. This company was designed by one of the USA's foremost industrial architects, Solon Beman. The new plant incorporates safety and comfort for employees in those days. The company started building its products in 1887. P&G products, with their reputation for quality, are made by an ethical company, which has begun to be recognised by the slogan "Highest grade, honest weight". The R&D facility was initiated in 1890, and by 1920 it had become the integrated division of the company, where it started employing many people.

In 1920, James N. Gamble helped to establish Bethune-Cookman University. This is just the beginning of the company’s long tradition of supporting historically black colleges and universities. In 1924, Dr. Paul "Doc" Smelser, an economist from Johns Hopkins University, joined the team. He introduced the idea of conducting deliberate, data-based market research with consumers and allowed them to improve consumer understanding and anticipate their needs to create products that improve everyday life.

From the start of the company till date, the company has innovated many products and made life easier, which has driven its existence for over 180 years. They were being one of the largest consumer goods companies in the world by filling their buildings with passionate, inspired, motivated people who believe in going the extra mile, every day.
