The Infosys Story

The company was incorporated as Infosys Consultants Pvt Ltd in 1981 by Nandan Nilekani, Narayana Murthy, and five other co-founders at Pune and had its registered office in Bengaluru. The name "Infosys" was coined from "information systems" using the initials I, S, and a suffix from "software" to indicate the company's dominant market position in IT services. Its initial public offering was in June 1992 for US$23 per share. It traded under the symbol INFY until October 1997, when it moved to INFY/NSE.

In March 2002, Infosys became a public company listed on NASDAQ under INFY. In February 2011, it was announced that NR Narayana Murthy would return as executive chairman when Nandan Nilekani would step down after 13 years at the helm of the firm.

For example, an entry-level software engineer can expect to earn around INR 400000 per annum in Bangalore or Mumbai. In contrast, senior management professionals can earn anywhere between INR 2 crore to INR 4 crore per annum, depending on their experience and role played within the organization.
