Pros & Cons

  • The best thing about working at EQL is the people I have the privilege to work with. They foster a positive and supportive work environment that not only makes each day enjoyable but also encourages personal and professional growth. EQL culture also aligns with my values and career goals, providing a sense of purpose and alignment in my role. The commitment to work-life balance, as well as the availability of development opportunities and flexible working arrangements, are other key benefits that allow me to excel in my work while maintaining a healthy and fulfilling life outside of the workplace
  • Ability to experience different rotations. Additionally, there is technical and business training provided each financial year
  • Other employees are more than happy to assist with a range of things that could or could not, be work-related
  • There are many different groups within EQL which means you have a large ability to find work you are interested in and specialise. Furthermore, the salary is very good as is the work-life balance
  • There is plenty of opportunity to ask questions as a graduate
  • Perhaps learning where to locate information with many different software, systems, and information sources spread around. Likely no different to other companies of a similar size until you become familiar with locating the required information. This may be exasperated as a graduate as we rotate every 6months
  • One of the challenges at EQL is that there can be a reluctance to change, with some individuals being quite set in their ways. This can sometimes hinder our ability to adapt to shifts in the industry, which in our field, can pose obstacles to maintaining business efficiencies
  • Some processes are outdated
  • Slow to change & adapt to new technologies as it is a large government enterprise
  • As EQL is so large, projects tend to last a long time. Therefore, as a graduate, you are unable to finish to entire project within the 6-month rotation

In my current position as a graduate engineer, there is progression based on successful completion of rotations. Nearing the completion of the program I am confident that graduates would have the skills and knowledge to apply for engineering roles nearing the completion of the program

The pay is great. I am less than 12 months out of uni and I am on $100k with a 9-day fortnight. Pay progression is clearly stated in the job description, salary progression is clearly stated in the EQL Union Collective Agreement. You get paid overtime (although I have never been required to work it). There are no bonuses
