We are seeking a professional with 1 to 3 years of experience in research, analysis, and business writing. The individual will work with stakeholders across the industrial products and manufacturing ecosystem with critical business issues including emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities. The individual is expected to use various research and analysis techniques to provide unique insights and be a trusted source for relevant, timely, and reliable information in the industrial products and manufacturing sectors.

Work you’ll do

The professional will be supporting the development (research, analysis, and writing) and the deployment of thought leadership pertaining to the industrial products and manufacturing sectors, the bulk of which would be published externally. Thought leadership includes deliverables such as in-depth research reports, client presentations, case studies, articles, and blog posts that integrate research from both primary and secondary sources. Examples of research sources include proprietary surveys, interviews with subject matter experts and industry leaders, third-party databases and commissioned research, and secondary research, such as analyst reports, government publications, presentations, industry commentaries, and news articles.

The professional is initially expected to support in developing research ideas, frame hypotheses, analyze quantitative and qualitative data, synthesize findings, and demonstrate strong writing, presentation, communication, and analytical skills. The professional will work with Indian and U.S.-based colleagues, as well as senior leaders from Deloitte’s manufacturing industry practice.

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate understanding of 1 or more sub-sector within industrial products and manufacturing sectors (heavy equipment, machinery, automotive manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing, electrical equipment, etc.)  and exhibit a good understanding of the industry dynamics
  • Support development of research proposals by providing research support and formulating a research plan
  • Help develop research hypotheses, perform comprehensive and targeted secondary research to validate the hypotheses, extract key insights, and synthesize findings
  • Communicate the key findings backed by research and analysis to the stakeholders
  • Good understanding of secondary research and analysis of academic literature, financial statements, case studies, qualitative and quantitative data
  • Basic understanding of primary research and analysis techniques
  • Demonstrate strong business writing and presentation skills
  • Build effective working relationships with subject matter experts within the firm and the external marketplace
  • Work collaboratively with the US and India practice leadership and other teams (e.g., marketing professionals, knowledge management, public relations) to prepare thought leadership deliverables

Requisite Core Skills

  • Basic understanding of the US/global industrial products and manufacturing sectors, or at least one sub-sector such as machinery, electricals, heavy equipment, etc.
  • Prior exposure to business research/thought leadership in industrial products and manufacturing sectors – understanding of key trends, challenges, and opportunities in the sector
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following research methods: Primary research (surveys, interviews), financial analysis, secondary research, data analysis, and case study research
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Strong business writing skills—ability to develop an appealing, succinct narrative. Convey complex research ideas in a compelling manner. The journalistic and narrative style of writing is preferred along with prior experience in report-writing and research report development
  • Strong experience in identifying and addressing client needs. Developing and sustaining client relationships and demonstrated negotiation and persuasion skills are a plus
  • Strong communication skills – presentation, verbal, and written
  • Ability to develop compelling and analytical data visualizations using one or more software tools, such as PowerPoint, Tableau, Excel, or others
  • Knowledge of databases such as Factiva, Thomson, Hoovers, Bloomberg, etc.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and strong team player – can work efficiently in a virtual work environment
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Highly developed personal and professional ethics are expected

Research and Insights (R&I) Group

The R&I group’s mission is to undertake research and analysis to develop compelling and forward-looking perspectives that allow clients to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to “what’s coming next.” The team plays an integral role in strengthening the firm’s strategic positioning through end-to-end development of high-quality thoughtware published on Deloitte.com and Deloitte Insights. Their work includes:

  • Managing relations with internal stakeholders
  • Using advanced data science and survey advisory capabilities to strengthen the credibility of insights
  • Leveraging editorial and visualization capabilities to improve the stickiness of firm thoughtware

  • Academic qualification: Master’s Degree (MBA/CFA/CA)
  • Work experience: 1 to 3 years
  • Work hours: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM
