The BHEL Story

In 1955, the Government of India signed an agreement on 17th November with Associated Electrical Industries (AEI), UK, for the establishment of a factory at Bhopal complete in all respects for the manufacture of heavy electrical equipment in India. The company was registered as Heavy Electricals (India) Limited (HE(I)L) in the Public Sector under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce on 29th August 1956.

A substantial increase in demand for power generating capacity was expected in the subsequent Five Year Plans being formulated by the Government of India, with the resolve to push the installed capacity in the country for power generation a decision was taken by the Government to set up three more plants for the manufacture of heavy electrical equipment.

The first one was at Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu) for high-pressure boilers, the second one at Hyderabad (Telangana) for steam turbo generators and high-pressure pumps and compressors - both of these with collaboration from Czechoslovakia and the third plant at Haridwar (Uttarakhand) with erstwhile USSR collaboration for large steam turbo generating sets and motors and also hydro generating sets including turbines and generators.

These three newly conceived projects were part of Heavy Electricals (India) Limited for which the work was initiated at Bhopal. All the initial preparatory work was carried out from Bhopal till November 1964. The government decided to create a separate corporation for setting up and managing these three units. Thus Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited was born and formally incorporated on 13th November 1964.

Today India is on the cusp of higher economic growth. The new era will present new growth opportunities. However, the landscape of technology and competition is under transformation. BHEL too is transforming and has embarked upon a journey with a vision of “Creating BHEL of Tomorrow” – an organization that will be Responsive, Robust and Rising, to the needs of the customers, shareholders, employees, and society.

BHEL Selection Process

The selection is the process to choose potential working persons for a company or organization. BHEL Recruitment process includes a selection stage when decisions are made as to the viability of a particular candidate's job application. It directly affects the overall productivity of an organization.

The right selection may increase the overall performance of a company & a wrong one may lead to material and financial loss. A perfect selection process can help to pick the most eligible candidates amongst all applicants. The Process of selecting candidates focuses on abilities, knowledge, skills, experience, and various other related factors.

Stages of the selection process 

  • Written Exam - GATE Exam

  • Interview Round

Written Exam

  • Academic Criteria - 60 percent or above in B.Tech, Class X, and XII..A gap of up to one year is allowed

Test Pattern

Candidates are selected on the basis of GATE Scores

Testing Areas 

  • Aptitude - 10 Marks

  • Technical - 55 Marks

Test Description

  • The total time allotted to the written exam is 180 minutes.

  • There is a negative marking of 1/3 times the total marks of the question.

  • The aptitude section consists of questions based on data interpretation, graphs, blood relations, statement reasoning, etc. Also, questions are asked from basic mathematics like speed distance time, algebra, arithmetic, probability, geometry, permutation combination, etc. Questions are also asked from the English language like grammar usage, fill in the blanks, etc.

  • The technical section consists of questions from subjects of engineering
