The story of Aspire Systems

Aspire began with the vision of its three co-founders: Bhoovarahan Thirumalai, Shankar Krishnamoorthy and Gowri Shankar Subramanian, the latter of which lead the company. His leadership drove the company to over 2,400 employees across Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific with the aim of always paying attention to stakeholder needs.

Subramanian reiterates the vision of Aspire through personal endeavours, like being an angel investor in startups, delivering presentations and founding charities. He seeks to steer the company in a similar direction, maintaining corporate social responsibility and adequate reporting standards to this day.

Career prospects

Aspire is known for having an excellent set of fresher programs for aspiring software developers and network engineers. Former employees report numerous growth and development opportunities in the form of diverse work and supportive management. Any objections or suggestions for improvement are usually heard and acted upon. Promotions usually go to those most deserving. It’s a great career launchpad.

There are a few downsides though. The salary isn’t as competitive as other tech companies in the region. Office politics can sometimes be prominent; managers can sometimes show preferential treatment. Furthermore, they can also be closed-minded in some employees’ experience, but this is far from the norm.

Overall, Aspire is at worst, an exceptional entry point. Even if you have no intention of staying for longer than three years, you’ll be able to make a meaningful contribution and learn what it’s like to work at a well-known tech company.

The recruitment process

There are two main ways to apply. Assuming you’re applying for an associate software engineering or trainee role, it’s possible to:

  1. Email your CV to the nearest Aspire office.
  2. Apply through your university.

An academic transcript must be provided in either case. Applicants must be fluent in English to get through the process successfully.

If they like what you’ve sent them, you’ll start with an aptitude test, with basic logical reasoning questions. This is followed by two technical tests. These will feature questions pertinent to the job, like writing code. You may even have to write that code by hand on paper. There is then an interview with HR, which if you’re successful, will result in a job at Aspire!

Remuneration

Payment can vary substantially based on experience at Aspire. The following are some annual starting salaries you can expect:

  • Software engineer - ₹230,000 pa
  • Senior software engineer - ₹370,000
  • Module lead - ₹570,000

The culture

Aspire holds many social events for its employees, from quiz nights and hackathons to analytics lectures and technical seminars. These serve to develop each employee’s skill set and give them the means to bond with their colleagues outside traditional domains.

Employees are encouraged to take part in volunteer work through programs like Polestar or the Pearltri Foundation, the latter of which assists youths in building employable skill sets through vocational programs

It has won awards for its inclusivity, not only with the Great Place to Work Institute but the AVTAR Top 100. It’s also ranked 38th in India’s 100 Best Companies to Work For by The Economic Times and has ranked in the top 100 ten consecutive times.

Mission & values

Their most treasured value is always paying attention, not only to clients but employees and society as a whole.

Social contributions

Aspire are responsible for a multitude of initiatives designed to foster creativity and entrepreneurship. Pitching and hackathon events are common, with each themed around a specific sector, like health or fintech. They’re also responsible for semi-regular blood drives, where participants are encouraged to donate blood. Combined with their work with the Pearltri Foundation and other internal charity drives, they hope to keep their attention fixed on the needs of their employees and wider society.
