Thanks to the quality of their products, the company quickly became popular.

In 1991, the company launched the AM386 microprocessor series, which was compatible with Intel's 32-bit 386 microprocessor. This triggered a long court battle which AMD eventually won in 1994. In 2000, the company launched the Athlon processor, making them the first company to manufacture a 1-GHz microprocessor. This established their presence in the chip market.

In 2008, AMD decided to split the company into two; one would manufacture the microprocessors while the other would design them. In 2014, AMD was restructured into Graphics and Computing. Today, AMD is regarded as one of the biggest and most reliable technology brands in the world. Its headquarters are in Sunnyvale, California.
